Mavers Pair Qualifier 2007

Posted by: Sarah Thomson, 27th June 2007 19:13PM

Due to the amount of rain we had there was a last minute venue change from the Match lake at Barford to Colton.  The event saw 48 pairs fishing and one pair fished Railway and the other fished either Colton or Willow lakes.  The low water temperatures and changeable weather effected the fishing – which wasn’t great!

Local anglers Paul Yeomans and Gary Kiddell were second and also qualified for the final which is on Saturday 18th August and will be held at Maver Larford Lakes (near Stourport).  There’s £5000 & £5000 worth of tackle as the top prize.  There will be 50 pairs fishing, with some of the top named match anglers in attendance.

The top pair both caught on hair rigged banded pellet.  Paul Yeomans caught down the edge on Willow with paste.  And Gary Kiddel caught on the bottom at 13 meters on paste.

Jim Barrowman (Fox Match/Barford Tackle) won this event which saw 28 anglers fish. He drew peg 44 and fished up-in-the water with a spud hookbait and fed 4mm pellet. Jim weighed a respectable 103lb 5ozs. Also qualifying for the final was Tony Dawson (VDE) who drew near to Jim on peg 47 and also fished mid water. He weighed in 90lb 5ozs.

Well done guys! They will be fishing the 40 peg final which is to be held on Heronbrook Fishery on 19th September competing for a £4000 top prize with 2nd place receiving £2000 (numerous tackle prizes up for grabs also).

Top Lake Fishing Well

All lakes are now fishing fairly back on track after their spawning and the changeable weather.

The shots below are from a recent fishing trip which saw Ben, Olly and Joby Errington catch several fish from the Top Lake on pegs 10, 11and 12.  They had Gudgeon, Roach, Rudd, Crucian/Brown Goldfish and Mirror Carp.  I think all bar Tench (and he was nearly in the net) and Skimmer Bream they had every species in the lake!
