Silver Fish Match

Posted by: Sarah Thomson, 23rd January 2007 09:00AM

Bob Nudd (Vde, Browning) won the lastest of the Tuesday Silver Fish Matches run by local match organiser Barry Burlton. Pegged on the pleasure lake peg 26 Bob fished two pole lines during the day, one at 11m and the other at 14.5m.(For full result see match results section)

The 11m line proved to be where the most fish were. Feeding groundbait at the start and regular loosefeeding maggots over the top roach from 1oz - 8oz were the main target on this line.

The 14.5 m line however was aimed at the larger roach and numerous Skimmers and Bream in the lake. This line was fed with 'Barford Micro pellets' and Casters, and was to be fished later in the match when hopefully the larger fish would move in.

The plan worked, and five cold hours later Bob amassed 24lb 10oz in the net of mainly roach but with the odd bonus skimmer to win the match.

Second Placed Tony Anderson (Sensas Angling Direct) fished to a very similar plan and ended with 21lb 3oz from peg 7

Third Placed Paul Manthorpe (Kessingland) fished a totally different match. Loosefeeding around 2 pints of bronze maggots on a little and often basis. Paul Fished the pole a varying lengths to catch 16lb 4oz of roach all 'Up in the water'.

Norwich Disabled and CMG A/C Brave the Elements!

Posted by: Sarah Thomson, 18th January 2007 09:00AM

Our Venue regulars Norwich disabled A/C turned up with a 4 man Match and braved torrential rain and wind gusting up to reportedly 70mph.

J Chaplin won the Match with 20-08 (see 'Match Results') and Said " Unfortunately a lot of out anglers didnt turn up today but it was the older boy's in the club who braved the elements and even in these conditions we've all had a few fish!!"

Another of our regular clubs CMG also Braved the elements, and on a very winswept willow lake and against the odd were also rewarded with a good match, Mike Covell won the Match on the feeder, from peg 5 and had carp of mixed sizes for a comfortable win and 37lb in his net.

A Mission for a Double

Alec Penman sent me this photo of his nephew, Tom Quayle, after their fishing trip in the October half term.  Uncle Alec's mission was to catch his nephew a double figure carp.  He used various baits to catch Perch, Roach Rudd, Skimmers and even a Gudgeon.

This 10lb 8ozs Mirror came along in the last half hour.  Caught from peg 7 on the Pleasure Lake, using soft paste made from Barford Pellets and cupped in (kinder cup on pole end) under the left hand bush about 3 pole sections out.  They had been popping a few pellets under the bush all the time they were there.  Mission accomplished!!

Excellent fish handling also - fish held low to the ground and an unhooking mat underneath - many thanks.
